Local charity Alive UK, which aims to provide emergency support for people in crisis in Norfolk, has launched a gift and treats appeal to give local children and parents a gift this Christmas.

The charity is asking people who would like to support the appeal to donate an unwrapped new gift, toy or chocolate treat, such as selection boxes, at a collection point that can be found by our 8ft Christmas tree and Santa’s sleigh on the lower ground floor, before Friday 16thDecember 2022. It is also looking for donations of wrapping paper.

The charity will deliver unwrapped gifts and wrapping paper to the parents of children so that they can enjoy wrapping the gifts themselves to give to their children. They will be given to families in desperate need in Norfolk.

The Works, which is located on the lower ground floor, is also supporting the appeal by asking customers if they would like to buy and donate to the appeal.

Jo Thorne, chair of trustees, and pastor of Alive Church, comments: “Many families, through no fault of their own, are not able to afford even a small gift for their child and are choosing between food, heating or a present. This appeal will help local families in Norfolk to keep Christmas as magical as they can and we hope to support over 100 children and parents this year. Gifts can be donated for any age from babies through to toys for children, gifts for teenagers and parents. Thank you to Chantry Place for supporting us again this year and for their kind donations to kick-start the appeal.”

Paul McCarthy, general manager at Chantry Place, said: “Alive UK joined us at the Centre last year in a unit on the lower ground floor where donations can be made to help reduce food poverty and provide emergency support for people in crisis in Norfolk. Hearing from the charity about the families that they help and the issues they face brings home to all of us the need to support them and the wonderful work that they do, especially at this time of year in the spirit of Christmas. As such, we’ll be donating gifts ourselves and encouraging and making it easy for our visitors to do the same”.
Donations should be dropped off in the perspex box near the sleigh at Chantry Place on the lower ground floor before 16th December.
