News: 16 July 2024
Back to newsThe Community Sports Foundation are Norwich City Football Club’s official Charity Partner and for over 25 years they have been making a difference in our community. Using the power of sport the Foundation works with over 43,000 people across Norfolk every year, driving inclusion for people with disabilities, boosting mental health and wellbeing, raising aspirations for disadvantaged people, and engaging with the community.
Established in January 1992 through a pioneering partnership with Norfolk County Football Association and Norwich City Football Club the charity formerly known as Norwich City / Norfolk County FA Football. The Community managed and delivered football activities predominantly through schools coaching sessions and soccer schools.
In 2009 through support from the Department for Education and Football League Trust Accreditation the foundation increased its capacity to sustain, diversify and grow, developing new county wide positive activities for young people. Challenging the rise in childhood obesity – Norfolk NHS supported the development of the charities Health programme delivering obesity prevention and treatment programmes including MEND, Nutrifit and the Active Canaries programme along with support from the Football Foundation.
The Community Sports Foundation continues to provide inclusive environments that meet the needs of disabled people so they can enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of sports. They also offer a range of affordable services that provide community engagement and have a positive impact – such as the school sports and kids’ courses.
Run Norwich is an award-winning 10-kilometre road race, organised yearly by the Foundation to raise vital funds for the charity’s work. Taking place in the heart of Norwich’s beautiful and historic city centre, the course has been designed to create a unique experience for runners and spectators alike. With music and entertainment at the start and along the route, the race is for runners of all abilities. This year’s race takes place on Sunday 8th September – and we can’t wait!
