Meet Rudey, the illustrator behind our Game On trail
News: 13 May 2024
Back to newsWe’re pleased to be hosting the Game On trail from Saturday 25th May to Sunday 2nd June as part of the Norwich Games Festival, with The Forum.
The trail includes seven posters that visitors will be able to find across the Centre, all of which were illustrated by the incredibly talented Rudey.
Trail maps can be picked up from The HMV Shop, and once complete, people can enter into a competition to win a £200 voucher from the retailer.
Can you tell us about yourself and what you are studying and how you came to do the designs for the trail?
I like sunny days, good food and sea creatures! I’m studying Level 4 Creative Enterprise at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, which gives me a glimpse into what it would be like to run and own a unique business. Ellie (organiser at Norwich Games Festival) was my former teacher for the subject, and reached out to me with this amazing opportunity!
How old are you and where do you live?
I’m 19 and I live in the seaside village of Caister-on-Sea.
What’s your favourite illustration for the Game On trail at Chantry Place?
My favourite illustration is the VR-headset character. It was the first one I started with, and the one I enjoyed to do the most! Drawing them was the beginning of something amazing!
What was your process when designing the posters?
Diversity is at the heart of my designs. Not only did I want the poster characters to be playing fun and engaging games – like the space hoppers – I also wanted them to show people of all walks of life; something that a young child could look at and say: ‘they look like me!’. Inclusivity means a lot to me, especially as an autistic individual. My mum gave me some tips and pointers too, as she’s great at encouraging me to go outside of the box!
How long did it take to design each one?
Overall, it took about a month to have finished the final products.
What would you say your artistic style is?
Super vibrant and colour!
Are you into gaming?
I love gaming. It’s a great pass-time, whether it be digital or physical. My favourite video game is Splatoon 3!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
It goes without saying that I love drawing! Going for nature walks, spending time with friends and family, and listening to good music!
What is it you want to do once you finish college?
I’m off to the University of Creative Arts in Surrey to pursue Illustration. I’d love to have a career in art and design.
How do you feel about partnering with The Forum & Chantry Place on the Norwich Games Festival / Game On trail?
It’s a great opportunity that hits close to home. Years ago my best friend Huck and I painted a skip for the Go Go Hares event. I’ve also been to the Norwich Games Festival a while back! The team have been amazing to work with and I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the event as much as I have creating it!
Are you looking forward to seeing the designs up at Chantry Place?
Eeee I’m buzzing!!
