Meet the artist for our GoGoSafari sculpture
News: 15 January 2025
Back to newsChantry Place is once again a presenting partner of a Break trail – and this summer it is a stampede of animals coming to Norwich and Norfolk for GoGoSafari 2025. Not one, but five majestic sculptures are coming from the African Savannah to march their way into Norwich and Norfolk.
As well as being a host of several of the sculptures this summer, we also have one we are sponsoring – a rhino!
While we don’t want to give away too much just yet, we caught up with the artist of our sculpture, Paul Fox Goddard, to find out about him and his plans for the sculpture…
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m a part-time lecturer at college in English studies and in my spare time love to do painting! Last year I got involved in designing and painting a book bench as part of the Newmark Creates project and loved it. Wild in Art were involved in the project too and then I heard more about the other projects they do and so put in a design for the Break Norwich event. Although I live in Newark now, I went to the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich and grew up in Norwich.
How do you feel about decorating the rhino for Chantry Place?
It is different to what I have done before having a rhino sculpture to decorate but I’m really excited! I’m chuffed that Chantry Place chose the design they did and can’t wait for them to see it and also everyone else when they do the trail.
Have you started decorating the rhino?
Yes I have and I need to have it done by the end of February. It is sitting in my garage for me to decorate it and I’m already attached to it! I loved coming up with the design for the rhino too which we reveal more about soon. I wanted to do a design for a rhino as they are such powerful animals!
What will be your favourite part of the rhino?
It is all the intricate details – the depths and layers, making it not flat and adding in all the details. I’m so excited for people to see the rhino and when it is part of the wider trail too. Of course, it is all about raising money for Break.
Break gives children, young people and families the time and support they need to achieve their full potential. Whether that’s through therapeutic services, respite breaks, providing a resilient home or support with parenting, we are committed to supporting them through whatever life has in store.
We will announce more details about our sculpture, the theme and the trail soon. Roll on June 2025!
